What To Expect

Every car owner will have to take their car to an auto repair shop, whether it’s just for tuneups and routine maintenance or for large, involved repairs. If you’re a first-time vehicle owner, or you just don’t know that much about cars, this might seem intimidating. We understand—but it doesn’t have to be! Once you learn what to expect from an auto repair shop, you’ll be able to walk into your next maintenance appointment without feeling too lost.

Expect that the shop’s employees are certified.

When you go to an auto repair shop that employs Automotive Service Excellence (or ASE) certified employees, you can be sure that the shop expects quality work from their mechanics.

Expect that they keep you updated.

So you’ve found a shop with certified professionals, they’ve given you a detailed estimate in writing, and they’ve helped you understand a bit more about your car and its repair. Now, you leave the car in their hands for a while as they work on it. You should expect that, while you’re without your car, they keep you updated on any changes.

Expect to be briefed on their procedures and their costs—in writing.

When you bring your vehicle in for an estimation, the shop’s employees will tell you what they need to do to fix your car and around how much it will cost. You should expect this in writing.

Expect that they help you understand your repair.

If you aren’t too car-savvy, that’s OK! Just tell your mechanic and ask him or her to explain what’s involved with the repair/maintenance in terms you can better understand.
